Dr. Burton was a Professor of Geography at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). He was one of several undergraduate geography majors from NCCU who returned to join the department’s faculty upon completion of their doctoral degree. During his tenure with NCCU, Professor Burton taught courses in earth science, remote sensing, and geomorphology. He was instrumental in developing the earth sciences concentration within the geography major. Dr. Burton was one of the first two Black geomorphologists in the United States. He was an avid motorcyclist.
