Carrie Stokes

For more than thirty years, Carrie Stokes worked in international development, geospatial technology, and the environment. She was the first Chief Geographer of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and in 2011 she founded the USAID GeoCenter, a team of geographers and data analysts who applied  geospatial technology, analytics, and visualization techniques to inform development decision-making. Prior to directing the GeoCenter, Carrie led the expansion of the international SERVIR program in a joint venture with USAID and NASA. Her work with SERVIR helped countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America use satellite data and geospatial technology to address critical challenges in food security, water resources, climate, land use, and disasters. Carrie has a technical background in global climate change, natural resource management, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). She holds an M.S. degree in Environmental Science and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, West Africa.
